>>> The legend of green rice flakes cake – a story told only now
>>> Jasmine sponge cake – fragrant, gentle, and unforgettably soft
In the 6th Hung Vuong King's reign, after defeating the An invaders, the King intended to pass the throne to one of his princes. The prince who would succeed the throne was the one who could find the most delicious dish that best suited the King's taste to offer to the ancestors on the New Year.
After the King's word was issued, the princes raced to order people to go to the forests and down to the seas, searching every corner of the world to find unique delicacies to present to their father.
Among the princes was the eighteenth prince named Lang Lieu. Orphaned from a young age, without anyone to guide him, Lang Lieu's heart burned with anxiety, not knowing what to do to nurture the hope of inheriting the throne.
That night, in a dream, Prince Lang Lieu saw a goddess descend. The goddess told him: “Above is the sky, below is the earth. Only with heaven and earth are there all species, flowers, trees, and humans. Rice grains are the most precious thing in the world; why not use that precious thing to make a cake with the square shape of the Earth and the round shape of the Sky. ”Square and round', aren't these the sufficient wishes of mortals?'.

Prince Lang Lieu had a very beautiful, virtuous, and famously skillful wife. He brought the story of his dream to tell her, and then the two of them started working immediately. First, they made the square cake representing the earth, using meat and beans for the filling, with the significance that the earth has grass, trees, and animals; they used dong leaves to wrap it to create a green shell, like fertile land with lush, green trees, covering the world, and named it Banh Chung.
After that, they took fragrant sticky rice, exposed it to the sun and dew to absorb enough of the essence of the Sky and Earth, then steamed it until fragrant and soft, pounding it with all their affection and heart to create a cake as round as the vault of the sky, with a supple white color, carrying a pure aroma. When enjoying it, one will feel the softness like drifting white clouds, named Banh Giay.

Finally, the Banh Chung and Banh Giay of the 18th prince – Lang Lieu – were rated highest by the King due to their delicious flavor and very special significance. Not only did they express filial piety to his parents and reverence for the ancestors, but they also contained love for the homeland and the country. It was thanks to this product that Lang Lieu surpassed all other delicacies and was chosen by his father to inherit the throne. The people, admiring him, chose these two types of cakes as offerings for ancestral altars, especially during the annual Lunar New Year.
Although Banh Giay has become popular, over many years later, the Lang Lieu giay cake of that time seemed very difficult to reproduce, because Prince Lang Lieu's cake back then was very soft (likened to clouds in the sky, light as cotton), while the Banh Giay made by the people still had many drawbacks, as the cake became hard very quickly and the filling easily turned sour. Until today, thanks to the application of superior scientific and technical technology, Bao Minh Confectionery Joint Stock Company has successfully made the giay cake that seemed to have been lost since the time of Lang Lieu.

Bao Minh's giay cake is produced in a clean environment with specialized vacuum cooking equipment, which has overcome the difficult characteristics that Lang Lieu once put all his heart and feelings into, and was instructed by the goddess. Taking a bite of the cake, we will clearly feel the soft crust sinking deep, flooded with the sweet, cool bean filling of lotus and coconut, melting smoothly in the mouth, indescribably fascinating. The shelf life of Bao Minh's giay cake is also longer than other types of giay cakes (up to more than 8 days), while still retaining its ancient rustic flavor.
On International Women's Day, March 8, 2019, Bao Minh was extremely proud when the Lang Lieu giay cake was chosen by the national airline Vietnam Airlines as a gift for its passengers on a special flight, with the meaning of sending the most loving and sweetest things to half of the world. In addition to the name Lang Lieu Giay Cake (Royal Giay Cake), Bao Minh's giay cake also has another name, Ota cake. It is a type of cake that Bao Minh has developed from this Banh Giay with many delicious, modern flavors that touch people's hearts such as: matcha green tea flavor, chocolate coffee flavor, strawberry milk flavor,...

In addition to Lang Lieu giay cake, Bao Minh also has many other confectionery products such as: Green rice cake, jasmine sponge cake, traditional peanut brittle (che lam), peanut candy, mooncakes, pia cake… satisfying the diverse tastes of customers.
